What we like in GBD-H1000 *by casiofanmag editors with 10+ years of experience writing about CASIO watches |
---|
Amazing G-SHOCK Look in a sporty watch (differs significantly from Polar, Garmin, and alike) |
Excellent readability (very distinct numbers even in the shadow) |
In-built Heart Rate Sensor (makes the watch more useful for sports activities, cardio load status monitoring, and calorie consumption) |
Phone GPS can be used for critical Running measurements and similar sports activities (sync your watch via Bluetooth with a dedicated CASIO app and may monitor distance, speed, pace, and other calculated values) |
Power-efficient accelerometer (apart from GPS, you can use another way, less accurate but more power-efficient, of tracking your steps, distance, pace, speed, etc.) |
Timer for interval measurement (up to five-time settings) with auto-repeat feature (suitable for functional workouts and similar sports) |
Vibrator feature for notifications |
Step Count Measurement (via energy-efficient 3-axis acceleration sensor). You can monitor your daily/weekly/monthly/6-month activity status by changing the screens in the watch. |
Push-friendly buttons (very convenient to use them) |
Remarkable MIP screen adjustments (you can choose different screens with different data to be used as default) |
Notification function (smartphone call, email, and SMS receipt notifications for ease of checking even while exercising.) |
Super Illuminator Light (a high-brightness LED that automatically lights up in the dark when the wearer’s arm is tilted) |
Calories consumption monitoring |
Altimeter/Barometer, Compass, Thermometer |
Ready running training plans available |
Support Strava (and other apps) sync |
Smartphone Link/App Connectivity Features (for time sync and watch adjustments) |
What we don’t like in GBD-H1000 *by casiofanmag editors with 10+ years of experience writing about CASIO watches |
---|
Solar-assisted charging (enough for timekeeping mode, but not enough for sports modes) |
Thick (because of the Heart Sensor bulkiness: 20.4 mm VS traditional 13.4 mm in DW5600) |
Raw CASIO software (can bug at times, but they are improving it) |
No hourly signal (a simple feature, but we haven’t found it) |
It doesn’t support chest heart rate sensor for more accurate measurement |
MIP display functions have fewer dynamics in comparison with traditional TN-LCD or STN-LCD (slower refresh rates, no milliseconds) |
It still requires additional cable charging (which is relevant to all sports watches) |
It looks like the G-SHOCK MOVE APP will be outdated soon |

About the Watch in short. The flagship GBD-H1000 series is interesting for a whole range of sports opportunities, among which there is also an optical heart rate sensor, which opens up new possibilities for a productive workout. It’s impossible to overestimate the technical potential of the series – Bluetooth synchronization [with a separate application specifically for GBD-H1000], a full GPS module, solar power, a separate device for recharging from the network, notifying the smartphone on the watch’s display, analysis of specific training parameters [speed, distance, pace, oxygen consumption, aerobic and anaerobic training effects]. Everything is created for sports activities, where the watch acts as your compact coach.

Shock Resistant. Shock-resistant structure protects module. Complex rugged shape prevents direct shock to glass and buttons.
20-bar Water Resistance. Uses a waterproof charging terminal and delivers 20-bar water resistance even with a built-in optical sensor that measures heart rate at the wrist.
Bezel Design. Resin parts cover metal bezel for easy button pushing.
Button Design. The design combines resin and metal with enlarged measurement buttons. The other buttons are dual-colored with non-slip design for easy operation.
Case back cover and band piece. The fine resin back cover with a curved surface and the urethane band piece ensure a smooth fit with the back of the hand.
Soft Urethane Band. Uses soft, easy-fitting materials, provides improved ventilation with plenty of band holes, and allows fine length adjustments.
Optical Sensor (Heart Rate Monitor). Optical sensors on case back of watch LED light, detect the blood flow under the skin, and measure heart rate.
Accelerometer. 3-axis accelerometer detects body movements and measures step count and distance travelled. Also interpolates distance measurements in environments where GPS measurement is unavailable.
Magnetic Sensor, Pressure Sensor and Thermo Sensor. Built-in miniature sensor takes measurements of compass bearing, altitude, barometric pressure, and temperature. Compass bearing and altitude information improve the accuracy of GPS distance measurements.
GPS Functionality. Acquires data of current location from GPS satellite, measures distance travelled, speed, pace, and other data. In addition to GPS, the watch acquires data from GLONASS and Michibiki (QZSS) satellite systems.
Display of Route Travelled. Link to a smartphone for map display of movement track on an app.
Automatic Time Adjustment. Can receive GPS signals to adjust watch time, date, and time zone.
* When automatically adjusting time while paired with a smartphone, GPS auto-signal reception is off.
MIP LCD (Memory in pixel LCD). Displays various detailed measurement data in high contrast for easy viewing. Items displayed when training can be customized for ease of use.
Super Illuminator. Equipped with a high-brightness LED that automatically lights up in the dark when the wearer’s arm is tilted.
Vibration Notification Function. Vibrates simple alerts for time elapsed during training and heart rate zone, as well as smartphone email receipt and other notifications.
Notification Mode. Displays Bluetooth®-connected smartphone call, email, and SNS message receipt notifications for ease of checking even while exercising.
* Not displayed in training mode.
Solar-assisted Charging. Chooses between two charging methods: USB charging for GPS, heart rate monitor and other training functions and solar charging for daily watch use.
Solar Charging. Time mode (includes step count measurement and notification functions) can be powered with solar charging alone*.
* When charged about eight hours every day under indoor fluorescent lighting (500 lux), and charged at window side on a sunny day for two hours in a week (10,000 lux).
USB Charging. Charges even more quickly. After about 2.5 hours of charging, training features can be used continuously for up to 14 hours.
Heart Rate Monitor / Heart Rate Zone Display. Displays the current heart rate, as well as a heart rate zone that shows exercise intensity at five stages, and is useful for pace management during activities and endurance training.
VO2max Measurement. Uses heart rate and running speed to calculate the maximum consumable oxygen uptake per kilogram of bodyweight in one minute (ml/kg/min). This can be used as a benchmark for cardiorespiratory ability when the user is trying to build endurance for running or other sports.
Smartphone Link. App can create training logs and plans.
G-SHOCK MOVE FREE Smartphone App. An easy-to-use app allows you to manage everything about
your training, from creating a training plan to checking your records and results.
– Training analysis data
– Training history
– Training plan

Official Casio Description. These are the latest additions to the G-SQUAD lineup of sports watches from G-SHOCK, which are equipped with heart rate monitor and GPS.
Useful workout functions include an optical sensor for heart rate measurement, along with bearing, altitude/barometric pressure, and temperature sensors, and an accelerometer for step counting.
These five sensors help to keep you in close touch of your current activity in real time. The ability to receive GPS signals lets you access location information when you need it. This, when used in combination with the stopwatch, makes it possible for you to keep track of running information like distance, speed, pace, and more. Your heart rate and speed is used to calculate a VO2 max value, which is an indicator of your cardio-pulmonary capacity.
